Our Mission
Art in the Park creates opportunities for participation in environmental art and volunteering. Our activities inspire individuals and strengthen communities.

Who we are
Art in the Park is a community environmental arts organisation based in Sheffield. We were established in 2003 by local artists who saw the need for more creative activities in the area, and aimed to be a boost to local regeneration.
Based in Upperthorpe, we run open access art events in green spaces in and around the areas of Upperthorpe, Netherthorpe and Langsett. Recent strategic changes have seen us spreading our scope even further, to cover the whole of Sheffield.
Art in the Park is run by a team of three part time workers and many volunteers.
We recruit community artists to help plan and co-ordinate our larger projects. We currently receive funding from a variety of sources.

What we do
At our local events we set up a gazebo in the park or green space and invite people to come and explore the environment and get to know each other through different creative activities e.g. sculpture, photography, painting, music. We provide ideas for particular activities and also support ideas which people come up with on the day by providing a range of different materials and a lot of enthusiasm. We also provide snacks and hot and cold drinks free of charge.
We also run projects in schools, providing creative workshops to engage children in environmental arts outside of their normal art lessons. Activities are always focused on using the environment as a creative resource.
We also work with other initiatives city wide to create projects across Sheffield. Current and recent partners include Sheffield NOW, the Sheffield Children’s Festival, Bank Street Arts and the Off the Wall Reading festival.

Why we do it
Art in the Park aims to inspire individuals and communities. We hope to encourage more creative and social use of parks and green spaces, and allow people to develop different skills and confidence.
We provide opportunities for creative play for both adults and children and create a forum for people to interact with different members of the community and their everyday environment.

How you can get involved
Come along to one of our events. We also have opportunities for volunteers who would like to be involved in the project, including different roles and training opportunities. We are also keen to make connections and partnerships with other projects in the city and elsewhere.
